aspect2i was founded in 2009 by photographers Paul Gallagher FRPS and Michael Pilkington FRPS, with a shared passion for photography and for helping other photographers develop.
Over the years, we have worked with photographers in locations around the world, through photography tours and retreats, online courses, individual tuition and longer-term mentoring. While the ways in which we teach have evolved, one thing has remained constant: our belief that becoming a better photographer is about much more than learning how to use a camera or edit an image.
Our aim is to develop photographers, not just images.
We believe photographic development comes from a combination of knowledge, experience and understanding. Technical and craft skills matter, but so too does learning to see more carefully, understanding why you make the photographs you do, and becoming increasingly confident in making your own creative decisions.
That philosophy runs through everything we teach.
Our on-demand courses allow you to learn at your own pace and concentrate on the areas of photography you most want to develop. They draw upon decades of practical experience in the field, editing, printing and teaching, and are designed to make sometimes complex subjects understandable and useful.
Some photographers come to us wanting to master a particular technique. Others want to improve their editing, explore black and white or infrared photography, become more confident in the field, or simply understand their photography more deeply. Whatever the starting point, our objective is not to tell you what your photographs should look like. It is to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to make those decisions for yourself.
aspect2i continues to provide photography education in many different forms, from on-demand learning and live online courses to retreats, individual tuition, mentoring and photography tours.
Photography is something none of us ever finishes learning. That is part of what makes it so rewarding.
